Pharmasaga Unveils Breakthrough Diabetes Candidate PS1 at Investor Conference

07/17/2026

Globally, over 589 million people suffer from diabetes, making it one of the most critical chronic diseases worldwide. However, current treatments primarily focus on controlling blood sugar levels and struggle to restore damaged pancreatic beta-cell function. The market urgently needs next-generation therapies capable of targeting the disease's underlying mechanisms.

During the conference, Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer Dr. Wen-Chin Yang presented how Pharmasaga targets a novel protein, PDIA4—a pivotal factor in islet cell degeneration—which serves as the core breakthrough behind PS1, a first-in-class PDIA4 inhibitor. Animal studies and Phase 1 human clinical trials have demonstrated that PS1 possesses favorable safety and tolerability profiles, supporting its advancement into Phase 2 trials to explore possibilities for disease modification and reversal.

The company also outlined its strategic roadmap: planning a NT$1.75 billion fundraising initiative. These funds will primarily support multi-regional Phase 2 clinical trials for both Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) and Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), expand international collaborations, and accelerate product licensing arrangements, alongside ongoing engagement with the UC Berkeley ecosystem in Silicon Valley and global pharmaceutical partners.
